Acronimo di Public Switched Telephone Network, ovvero il sistema di telefonia internazionale basato sui tradizionali doppini di rame pensati per trasportare la voce in modalità analogica. Questo sistema si contrappone ad i nuovi sistemi basati su tecnologie digitali, come ad esempio l'ISDN e il VoIP. Il servizio telefonico fornito sfruttando il sistema PSTN viene chiamato POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service, ovvero Servizio di Telefonia Tradizionale).
